Our Builders & Allied Trades Division held its annual cocktail reception on May 17, at the Wilf Jewish Community Campus. The Builders heard from Ze'ev Bielski, Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency for Israel, and from Riki Mullu, an Ethiopian jewelry designer who came to Israel alone at age 12. Bielski spoke of the challenges and opportunities Israel faces with the arrival of 20,000 new Ethiopian immigrants. He explained how these immigrants will be helped by Operation Promise, a new national initiative to raise additional funds to help Ethiopian Jews emigrate from Ethiopia and settle in Israel, as well as provide Jews in the former Soviet Union with life-saving and life-enhancing services. Riki Mullu shared her own personal experiences. The program was chaired by David Halpern of Atlantic Realty and Mark Wilf of Garden Homes. Zygi Wilf of Garden Homes called the Roll of Honor. The event raised $406,000 in new and renewed pledges, and an additional $190,000 for Operation Promise.
