How We Make a Difference - May 2005
More than 10% of the 313,000 Israeli girls between the ages of 12-17 have experienced sexual abuse, domestic violence and/or destructive behaviors of some type. One of Federation’s overseas beneficiary agencies, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, has created ADI, a Hebrew acronym for “empowerment, concern, and friendship.” ADI is a pioneering community framework that helps at-risk girls regain control over their lives through a range of intensive services. It helps those young women who have nowhere else to turn get the care necessary to deal with their harsh realities and learn to go on, despite them.
