How We Make a Difference - November 2005
As the old adage goes, “Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach him to fish, he’ll eat for life.” It is that message that Federation takes into account, when determining how best way to help some of those living below the poverty level in the United States. According to the National Jewish Population Survey of 2000-2001, 4% of American-Jewish adults are unemployed. To that end, Federations and our affiliated agencies offer employment services to adults without jobs. These services include: direct job placement, career assistance for recent college graduates and adults with long-term unemployment records, vocational evaluation, and programs that match employers with applicants.
