Kids & Teens

ACTIVITIES AND CAMPS

At the Jewish Community Center in Scotch Plains and the YM/YWHA of Union County, you will find a host of programs and day and overnight camps for young children through teens. Call the JCC at 908-889-8800 or visit the JCC website. For information about the Y, call 908-289-8112.

STUDENT TRAVEL TO ISRAEL

Federation supports students wanting to visit Israel by offering $500 stipends to Central New Jersey teenagers for approved Israel Experience programs. More than 200 approved Israel Experience (Birthright) programs are listed in a comprehensive guide.

EDUCATION

Day schools in the area include Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union 908-272-3400 and Jewish Educational Center (JEC) 908-355-4850.

COUNSELING

Federation supports many services for kids and teens in Central New Jersey. Through Jewish Family Service, your children can receive an array of counseling services including individual and family counseling, as well as school consultation and substance abuse prevention and treatment. Call one of JFS's offices for information about day and evening appointments and the fee schedule.

College Students

Federation gives support to two universities, Rutgers University in New Brunswick and Kean University in Union.

Rutgers University has a sizable Jewish student population and an on campus Hillel House. Call them at 732-545-2407 or visit Hillel's website at www.rutgershillel.org.

Kean University currently has over 200 Jewish students on campus. Call Kean University at 908-527-2000.  For news and happenings for the college age or post college age, visit United Jewish Communities' Generation "J" website. www.generationj.com.
